The Netherlands takes military action against the Indonesian Republic. Dutch soldiers occupy republican areas on Java and move towards Malang and Bangkalan. The republican troops have left before the Dutch troops arrived. They left a trail of destruction behind, which the Dutch troops come across during their advance. SHOTS: 00:00 ON THE ROAD TO MALANG - a military column (jeeps, tanks, lorries etc.) drives through the inlands and clears away roadblocks and other obstacles along the way, sometimes assisted by the local population; - in kampungs are destroyed and burned down houses; the homeless inhabitants and their luggage are taken to shelters elsewhere by the Dutch in lorries dakloze; - fires in Malang cause clouds of smoke to appear in the landscape; - the streets are quiet in Malang and a lot of buildings have been destroyed; smouldering and smoking rubble is everywhere; only the Roman Catholic church is still undamaged; an inhabitant that has stayed behind cries when the Dutch troops arrive. 01:30 ON THE ROAD TO BANGKALANG Dutch soldiers occupy the island of Madoera and are on their way to the city of Bangkalang. SHOTS: - marines sail into the harbour and embark; - after the landing they prepare the quay for the disembarkation of the rolling material; when this is done a militairy column heads towards the inland; - on the road mines(?) are dug up; - at first there are no people visible in Bangkalang, only burning houses and rubble; after some time the fled inhabitants of the city come back in long rows.
